EPC Updates for England & Wales
EPC updates were available today, then I realised they have changed the service and the data, so some good, some not so good updates today
EPC certificates have now moved to a different government service; in addition, they have changed the data, the file breakdown, and just generally caused me to lose hours amending the site to ensure the importers work!
What has changed?
A few things have been changed as follows
- No longer a single file for all EPC certificates, year by year csv files.
- Data used to start at 2008; it now starts at 2012.
- Two new fields added: Region and a Region code - For example, England and E12000003
- Reports are more up to date, so for end of May download it contains reports up to 16th May 2026 rather than cutting off at 30th April 2026. Nice!
Aside from the pain of having to update both Importers and Warmers, there is good news: the new Region fields mean I no longer need to derive region from postcode lookups, so less code, faster queries on EPC. In the last bullet above, I know the EPC is England but also the code tells me Yorkshire and Humber. So I can use that now without relying on the ONSPD table.
Also means I can update EPC to be split from combined England and Wales to different views for England and Wales.
So more good than bad, and the bad was just a one-off change; hopefully they won't change it too much for a while.

The site has grown so quickly, I honestly didnt expect the interest or the support, so thank you to everyone who has dropped me a line. More is coming, and I am spending time making it simpler, easier to understand, and also updating it regularly.
