Small UI Tweaks & A Note on Charts (Especially on Mobile)

Today was the day to fix some bugs. Thank you to everyone who has made suggestions to improve the site; many of those are now implemented.

Just a quick update on a few improvements I’ve made across the site today.

A lot of this work has been behind the scenes, tightening things up and trying to make some of the heavier pages a bit more usable, especially the ones filled with charts. For example, on the Mortgage Arrears (MLAR) page, I’ve added collapsible sections, cleaned up spacing, and made the long arrears history tables expandable so they don’t overwhelm the page.

I’ve also tweaked how some charts display on smaller screens. A common problem with data-heavy sites like this is that charts naturally want a certain amount of horizontal space, and mobile screens just… don’t have it. You can optimise layouts, add horizontal scrolling, collapse sections, simplify axes, and I’ve done all of that, but there’s a hard limit to what can be made genuinely “mobile-friendly” when the content itself is so detailed.

So if you’re on your phone and a chart looks a bit squashed or needs you to scroll sideways, that’s why. I’ve tried to strike a balance between readability and not destroying the desktop experience, but charts are one of those things that will always look and work better on a laptop or desktop monitor.  Even turning your mobile device to landscape will help a little.

Still, the updates today should make things feel a bit cleaner and easier to navigate, and I’ll keep gradually improving the layout as new ideas come up.

As always, thanks for reading, and for putting up with my ongoing tinkering!

I am the owner of this site. If there is anything wrong, it's on me! If you want to get in touch, please email me at [email protected]. The site has grown so quickly, I honestly didnt expect the interest or the support, so thank you to everyone who has dropped me a line. More is coming, and I am spending time making it simpler, easier to understand, and also updating it regularly.
